Navita Systems and Energy Opticon to market and sell joint offering for energy optimization, trading and risk management for asset-heavy energy producers

Published: 17.05.2010 Lund, May 17, 2010—Navita Systems, Halden, Norway, leading provider of ECTRM systems for the global energy and commodity trading community, and Energy Opticon, Lund, Sweden, world-leading in mathematical optimization of energy production efficiency, announced today their intention to offer Navita’s Pomax product and Energy Opticon’s Energy Optima 2000 product as a joint and tightly integrated offering. The joint offering will be marketed and sold by both companies. The arrangement is not exclusive. “We have seen that, especially in Continental Europe and Nordics, there is significant interest for either an optimization solution tightly extended with a full-footprint trading and risk management solution, or a trading and risk management application extended with sophisticated mathematical production optimization. Today, there is no such product on the market. Furthermore, although Navita and Energy Opticon have a number of joint customers today, we think there is massive incremental business value to be generated for our current and prospective clients through a joint and tightly integrated offering. By a tighter and richer dataflow between the production planning function, the energy trading function, and the risk management function we could provide a more accurate basis for production and trading decisions, lower risk, and increased decision speed ” commented Björn Malmström, Managing Director, Energy Opticon.

“The partnership with Energy Opticon offers our customers access to a world-class mathematical optimization software in combination with our Pomax trading and risk management solution. We have seen significant demand for such expanded-footprint solution in the market, especially amongst owners of generation assets. Mathematical optimization for energy production efficiency is highly specialized software that we do not have the resources and competence to develop in-house. The market should look at our partnership with Energy Opticon as a strategic manifestation to offer expanded-footprint solutions to current and prospective clients jointly with providers of best-of-breed solutions with compatible technology strategies. Such partnerships include Energy Opticon; Cubelogic, for credit risk and cube technology, and Power Settlements, for North American market interfaces” said Knut Johansen, CEO, Navita Systems AS.
